UCSF Nurses were shocked by the announcement on March 31st, 2025, that parking at the Parnassus Campus would be taken away and that there are future plans to eliminate parking for staff at Mission Bay. Many of our colleagues already have difficulty parking at all UCSF campuses, and this sudden announcement directly endangers staff and patient safety at UCSF. We have to take a stand!
The university has yet to bargain on this issue with CNA or our union siblings. Meanwhile we are upending our lives to find safe, timely alternatives to employee parking. Having nurses park far from the campus will have an immediate negative impact not just on our safety but also on our ability to care for patients!
Use the form to send the message below to UCSF Health President and Director of Strategic Planning and Campus Life Services Cathleen Stugard demanding the University to meet our demands. Don’t upend our lives!
Keep nurses and our patients safe — Protect employee parking at UCSF!
The proposed change to employee parking on UCSF campuses will impose an immediate hardship for ALL employees, including nurses:
- Nurses who live outside their campuses will be burdened with a longer commute time.
- Undue hardship put on families who have prescheduled childcare that will be disrupted.
- No clear safety measurements for night shift workers.
- No guidelines for on-call workers.
- Only a limited number of passes are even available for the parking lots.
We demand UCSF Management to:
- Cease all plans of the June 1st, 2025, implementation date.
- Return the parking policy back to its original form.
- Fulfill the request for information, schedule dates to bargain, and bargain in good faith with the union.
We are here to support our patients and community across the UCSF Campuses; the University cannot unilaterally make changes without the input of CNA.
We demand the University to recognize this issue and make every effort to work with the union.
