I Support the CNA Bargaining Demands for the 2025 CNA - UC Contract Negotiations
1) SAFE STAFFING AND PATIENT CARE
Staffing by Acuity and Ratios:
UC must provide safe staffing in accordance with Title 22 and maintain state-mandated nurse-to-patient ratios at all times, based on patient acuity and RN clinical judgment.
Technology & Professional Practice
: UC must ensure bedside RNs are involved in the adoption and implementation of any new clinical technology.
Meal & Break Coverage:
UC must provide dedicated RN coverage for all legally required meal and rest breaks, without compromising staffing ratios or patient safety.
Patient Care Over Profits:
UC must prioritize patient safety and safe working conditions over University profits.
2) HEALTH AND SAFETY
PPE and Safety Protocols:
UC must provide adequate PPE and enforce evidence-based safety protocols that follow the precautionary principle to protect nurses and patients.
Disaster Preparedness:
UC must maintain and regularly update disaster preparedness plans, with RN input, to ensure safe and effective emergency responses at all UC facilities.
Workplace Violence Prevention
: UC must implement and enforce comprehensive workplace violence prevention plans, including staffing, training, and incident response.
Safe and Respectful Work Environment:
UC must provide a workplace free from violence, harassment, and intimidation, with clear enforcement and accountability measures – including presumptive eligibility for work-related illnesses and injuries.
3) UNION RIGHTS FOR NURSES AS PATIENT ADVOCATES
Union Rights & Advocacy:
UC must respect nurses’ union rights and our duty to act as patient advocates, free from retaliation or unjust discipline – including our rights to free speech, our right to protest, and our right to collectively advocate for our members, patients, and profession.
Fair Hiring Practices and Career Advancement:
UC must address disparities in hiring practices and promotions.
4) COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Economic Justice:
UC must provide enhancements to RN pay to address economic disparity and to recruit and retain nurses across the UC system.
Health Care and Retirement:
UC must provide nurses with affordable health care and maintain the UCRP pension, retiree health benefits, and all other health and welfare benefits nurses have earned across the UC system.
Education and Leave Access:
UC must expand and improve UC nurses’ access to earned education, sick, vacation, and other leave benefits.
